1998 Porsche 911 GT1 Straßenversion, the only one ever made, registered in Böblingen, Baden-Württemberg. The car retained styling cues of the 996 model series 911, such as the basic glass-house form, along with the tail-lights and headlights, although these elements were exaggerated. While attempting to retain cues with the new 996 911 of 1998, the form was mostly based on Norbert Singer's aerodynamic requirements. Unlike previous GT1 models in 1996 and 1997, this car featured a full carbon-monocoque construction as an answer to the exotic million dollar mid-engined BMW V12 power McLaren F1 GTRs, which also used carbon construction. Unlike its rivals on the race-track, the GT1 remains a turn-key race-car.
